About Cassie McLeod (aka 'Fred')

Heading 2

I started playing ball when I was four through a local recreation t-ball program. I immediately became hooked and have been playing ever since.

I enjoy the mix of physical and mental skills required to do well in fast-pitch. As a catcher, I’m involved in every pitch. I love being behind the plate, coordinating plays and calling out to direct and support my teammates. It’s a great opportunity to use my outside voice.

For the past several years, I have volunteered 2-3 times per season to mentor my sister’s softball team. I enjoy sharing my passion for ball, and helping the younger girls learn new skills – much as I learned from those before me. Their high-fives and hugs make the time I spend with them so worthwhile.

I also volunteer at our local Parkinson’s Superwalk, Community Resource Fair (as a community superhero, cape included), the Help Portrait Scavenger Hunt, and at Earth Day hosting activities for young children. I enjoy giving back to my community as a volunteer.

As a joke, my Dad starting teasing at home by calling me “Fred” when I was two or three; then one year I played on a REP team with a Cassidy. When the coach would say “Cass, could you please… “ I was never sure if he was referring to me or her. So, I asked him to call me “Fred.” The name stuck and carried over to the soccer pitch as well. The name always seems to create some raised eye-brows on the fields, but I’m okay with being a little different!
